Calendula is an essential oil that can be used for many purposes. Used externally, this herb can soothe burns and promote healing of wounds. Applied directly to the ear, calendula oil can reduce the pain and discomfort of an earache. Taken orally, it can help break a fever, quiet an angry ulcer, and relieve menstrual cramps. It can also provide relief from eruptive skin diseases, such as shingles (herpes shingles), which is caused by a virus much like the chicken pox virus.
